Jesus, himself, said in John 14:15:

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

We often think that any mention of God's commandments are limited to the Ten Commandments that God gave to Moses, however, there is one commandment that Jesus gave his followers, in particular, that if followed, will make it all the more easier to keep the "ten" that were given to Moses.

Notice that after Jesus said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments", in the very next verse, John 14:16-18, he says:

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.

It is so important to note that the Lord Jesus tells us that if we love him, to keep his commandments, and in the same breath, starts talking about the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, who is with us from the time we become born-again, but he tells us that He the Comforter shall be in us!

Jesus did give a commandment of great importance to every born-again believer that must be heeded and taken to heart. What he gave was not merely a suggestion, but rather, a strong command. He gave this command in Acts 1:4:

And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Verse 5:

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Many denominational churches preach against the most blessed experience saying that John the Baptist was simply referring to being saved. How ignorant! Everyone who has ever read God's Word knows that being baptized in water is something we do after we've been born-again, not prior.

Jesus' mother, Mary, gave the wisest, most sound advice given to mankind when she said to the servants, "Whatsoever he [Jesus] saith unto you, do it". (John 2:5) That advice when heeded will guarantee you victory every time!

So, we see that Jesus, in Acts 1:4 commanded them to wait for the promise of the Father, which is, in verse 5, the Baptism of the Holy Ghost.

Those words were for everyone who heard them; however, only one-hundred-and-twenty (120) followers actually followed through and did them. Can you imagine after the miracles and supernatural demonstration of power on display before the great masses of people, the enormous multitudes who followed Jesus and pleaded to be healed, when the time came to do what Jesus said, only one-hundred-and-twenty (120) shows up? (I find it interesting to note exactly who did show up in obedience to Jesus' command.).

We're told in this same chapter of Acts (l:13,14), that Peter and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James were in the Upper Room (verse 13), in prayer with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers (verse 14).
